Happy Summer Everyone!
I hope you are having a blessed summer and getting time for a little rest and relaxation or at least a change in pace. The latter is the case for me and the studio as we moved into the biggest summer dance session ever MainStreet Dance after a highly successful performance of Hadassah, A Story of Esther April 24th.
Summer Rec classes had 27 enrollments in two levels of dance and Ms. Jenna's contemporary dance class had 8 students enrolled. Both sessions ran twice a week.
Abbey Nold and Mekell Rockwell performed How Beautiful for New Life AG church the first Sunday of June. Moving right on Emily Plumage, Mekell Rockwell, Josh and Sarah Easter, and Ms. Sunny performed In Christ Alone and Hail To The King June 23rd at Worship Without Walls in Steamboat Park. With the exception of Ms. Sunny, none of the dancers had ever performed outdoors so that was an exciting experience.
Ms. Sunny choreographed a music video/dance presentation for New Life AG's youth group that they performed during worship July 4th at New Life to Rachael Lampa's Day of Freedom. Jeb Brazelius, Abbey Nold, Kylie Varns, Mekell Rockwell, Josh and Sarah Easter, Brittany Faddoul, and Ms. Sunny performed this.
Emily Plumage flew to Jackson, MS July 3rd to participate in a two week workshop at Ballet Magnificat's studios and on Belhaven College Campus. Ms. Sunny flew down to join her July 14-16 to see her perform in the student performance, to take classes, and fly back with her.
Some of the MainStreet dancers and Ms. Sunny hope to attend a performance of C.S. Lewis' Four Loves presented by Academy of Dance Arts in Rapid City August 7.
Once again, MainStreet Dance is planning a holiday performance. This year's performance of A Christmas Gift will be entirely new production and challenge. This will be a biblical adaptation for Nutcracker lovers with an entirely new twist on the story complete with a throne room where the nations come to dance for King Jesus and where he dances with His bride.
This will be a huge undertaking for us to get ready by December 12 which is Hanukkah, by the way. (God is smiling.) So parents GET YOUR KIDS ENROLLED THIS YEAR EARLY because costumes will be ordered in late September and once ordered, we will not be able to take new students until January.
In January we will begin preparing for Peter Pan for which we are looking for a June date once again at Riggs Theatre. This will give us breathing room between the winter and spring shows.
Peter Pan is a show Ms. Sunny did as a college student at University of Utah and which she has always wanted to set on her students. It offers a wealth of delightful music and childlike wonder and love of make believe as a group of children fly away to Never Never Land. Wouldn't we all like to do that at times? So put on your wings and come fly with us.
But I trust in you, O Lord; I say, "You are my God." My times are in your hands; - Ps 31:14&15
